Best Disney Ships for Entertainment: Fleetwide, particularly on Disney Wish

Why Disney Cruises Are Tops in Entertainment: Disney Cruise Line is among the top cruise lines for families for a reason: The line knows how to entertain kids of all ages. After all, it benefits from the collected wisdom of the entire Disney corporation.

From big production shows to Disney character interactions with starstruck kids at breakfast and teatime, the line does its utmost to keep everyone happy on vacation.

Kids can start the day off right with character breakfasts — or, later, afternoon teas — where they can share a laugh with Goofy or a hug with Snow White. Come dinner time, several of the restaurants — including Animator’s Palate, Tiana’s Place and Rapunzel’s Royal Table — offer mealtime shows as well.

At night, Disney film favorites are brought to life on shipboard stages in kid-friendly 45- to 60-minute Broadway-style performances. You’ll find longtime favorites, such as “Beauty and the Beast,” as well as new hits like “Frozen, a Musical Spectacular.” Other production shows feature song highlights from a mix of favorite Disney movies.

More informal but no less fun: On one night each cruise, Disney launches an all-out deck party (either themed on pirates, “Star Wars,” “Marvel” or the film “Frozen”), complete with an interactive musical show, dance parties and at-sea fireworks.

Adult cruisers are not forgotten onboard and can delight in newly-released Disney (and Marvel) movies on the big screen in the theater or pool deck, and enjoy adult-focused entertainment in the nightlife districts aboard all ships in the fleet.

Number 1 on the overall list for 2024 is Apple, followed by Microsoft and then Amazon. Disney fell six places from their number 6 position on the 2023 list.

Netflix topped the Media and Entertainment sector, kicking Disney down to number 4 after 20 years at the top.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz, who is vying for a seat on Disney’s Board of Directors, has suggested that Disney join forces with Netflix to achieve profitability.

The World’s Most Admired Companies list is based on a poll of 600+ company candidates and 3,720 executives, directors, and industry analysts. Korn Ferry consulting company and Fortune asked participants to rate companies on nine criteria including investment value, ability to attract talent, products, quality of management, and social responsibility. To make the list, a company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry.

In the letter to shareholders heard ‘round the entertainment world, Netflix famously admitted that it competes with — and loses to — the popular video game Fortnite more than HBO. And while the gargantuan success of that Epic Games blockbuster surely remains an outlier, the subtext is unmistakable: In the knock-down, drag-out competition for users’ screen time, the video gaming industry is booming where yesterday’s entertainment forerunners are lagging, if not outright busting.

The global video game market is projected to see more than $365 billion in revenue for 2023, which is up from almost $320 billion in 2022, according to data from Statista. The gaming industry owes some of that success to its adaptation of tech breakthroughs and its discovery of new business strategies — both of which are also generated internally.

Disney Q4 Earnings 2023

Disney reported its 2023 fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday, November 8, with EPS of $0.82, $0.11 better than the analyst estimate of $0.71. Revenue for the quarter came in at $21.24B versus the consensus estimate of $21.37B.

“Disney’s Q4 report is remarkable, especially in the streaming business, as we had anticipated that new subscriptions would be considerably lower due to the ongoing challenges in creating new products amidst persistently high interest rates. Furthermore, these figures are a testament to the effectiveness of the company’s new financial reporting structure, which might appear as a mere formality but has genuinely enhanced financial efficiency. From a broader economic perspective, this also bodes well for the consumer discretionary market, indicating that the erosion of purchasing power has slowed down significantly compared to the past few quarters. It will be exciting to witness the intensifying competition between Disney and Netflix in the coming years, as both companies seem poised for success, especially in the backdrop of improving economic conditions and the anticipated increase in ad revenue during the election year.”

Thomas Monteiro, senior analyst at Investing.com.

Disney Q3 Earnings 2023

Walt Disney reported its 2023 third-quarter earnings on Thursday, August 3, with EPS of $1.03, $0.04 better than the analyst estimate of $0.99. Revenue for the quarter came in at $22.33B versus the consensus estimate of $22.49B.

Disney Q2 Earnings 2023

Disney reported its 2023 second-quarter earnings on Wednesday, May 10, with EPS of $0.93, $0.02 worse than the analyst estimate of $0.95. Revenue for the quarter came in at $21.82B versus the consensus estimate of $21.8B. Disney shares fell more than 5% in extended trading.

Disney Q1 Earnings 2023

Disney’s revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2023 grew by 8% over the quarter. The company reported a revenue of $23.51 billion and thus beat analysts’ expectations of $23.37 billion. Its earnings per share reached 99 cents, likewise surpassing the predictions of 78 cents expected by analysts. Disney did not do equally well in all its departments: its linear TV and direct-to-consumer units faced a difficult period, whereas its theme parks experienced a substantial increase year-over-year – 21% to $8.7 billion. This segment’s operating income jumped by 25% to $3.1 billion.

In Disney’s domestic parks, operating income growth was brought by higher volumes and increased guest spending. Higher volumes can be explained by increases in passenger cruise days, attendance, and occupied room nights. Guest spending growth was attributed to an increase in average per capita ticket revenue driven by Genie+ and Lightning Lane. At Disney’s international parks, increased results in Q1 2023 were due to growth at Disneyland Paris and higher royalties from Tokyo Disney resort.

Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, who resumed his position in November 2022, finds inspiration in Q1 2023 results to restructure the company in the near future. His vision is to slash expenses and empower Disney’s content creators. To this end, the company will get rid of thousands of jobs and slash $5.5 billion in costs.

Iger said that now Disney would consist of three divisions: Disney Entertainment, which would include most of its streaming and media operations; ESPN division consisting of the TV network and ESPN+; and a Parks, Experiences, and Products unit. Iger also plans to ask the board to approve the reinstatement of its dividend by the end of the calendar year. Disney suspended its dividends in early 2020 because of the pandemic.

Number of Disney+ Subscribers Worldwide from 2020 to 2022

The Walt Disney Company launched its streaming services in 2019 to compete with Netflix, which had licensed some of Disney’s content. The enterprise immediately proved successful. In a short period of two years, Disney+ managed to attract 100 million subscribers all over the world. In doing so, the company beat its own expectations: its initial goal was to enlist 90 million users by 2024. Disney’s popularity with subscribers made Netflix look unsuccessful by comparison. The SVOD market leader had spent almost a decade reaching the milestone of 100 million subscribers.

In 2022, Netflix lost to Disney again. While the latter continues adding subscribers, Netflix reported losses of subscribers in Q1 and Q2 of this year. By contrast, the number of subscribers to Disney+ hit a new high of 152.1 million in the third quarter of 2022. The fourth quarter saw strong subscription growth with the addition of 14.8 million total subscribers, including 12.1 million Disney+ subscribers.

In the first quarter of 2023, Disney+ total subscriptions were 161.8 million, as opposed to the 161.1 million subscriptions expected by analysts. A recent price hike for Disney’s streaming services caused the loss of about 2.4 million Disney+ subscribers during the quarter. Yet these numbers were still lower than the 3 million lost subscribers foreseen by Wall Street.

To track the inexorable growth of subscribers to Disney+ in the past three years, see the numbers in the table below:

Number of Disney+ Subscribers Worldwide from 2020 to 2022 (in Millions)

Year Number of Subscribers

Disney’s Achievements in 2022

The year 2022 will be remembered as successful by The Walt Disney Company. Its dozen theme parks were crowded; its five cruise ships entertained thousands of passengers; and its multiple film studios produced eagerly awaited movies. The company also celebrated the opening of new attractions at its theme parks in 2022, created chart-topping films, and brought back former CEO Bob Iger to intensify its financial growth and recalibrate its theme parks. The goal of Iger’s return was to give joy to people through great storytelling.

In 2022, Disney prepared the soil for its new attraction poised to open this year. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is planned to replace Splash Mountain at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. The attraction will feature Disney’s first African-American princess, Tiana, from The Princess and the Frog, and will be based on her adventures.

Disney+ continued growing in 2022 and boasted 164.2 million subscribers. The company’s entire arsenal of streaming services, which includes Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar, Hulu, and ESPN+, had more than 235 million subscribers worldwide. Subscriptions to Disney+ are expected to increase this year.

New episodes of Marvel and Star Wars were aired every week in 2022, much to the delight of viewers. Nor will people lack entertainment in 2023. Disney will serve them returning series such as the animated Star Wars series The Bad Batch and the docu-series Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The company will also celebrate several debuts, including The Muppets Mayhem and eagerly awaited Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a spin-off of the popular WandaVison series.

Cook-a-thons, wash-a-tons, pray-a-thons and other marathons wagged tongues in 2023.

The hype that accompanied a Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt and subsequent win inspired many Nigerians to take the unconventional path to fame and presumed success.

Here are the top world record attempts by Nigerians in 2023.

1. Hilda Baci – Cook-a-thon

Hilda Baci’s highly publicised attempt and subsequent win for the longest cook-a-thon remains unforgettable. From Thursday, May 11, to Monday, May 15, the 27-year-old Nigerian chef cooked over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint and broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

2. Helen Williams – Longest wig

In November, Lagos-based wigmaker, Helen Williams broke the GWR for the world’s longest handmade wig after spending 11 days and over two million naira. The wig measured 351.28 metres.

3. Tonye Solomon – Most climbed steps with football on the head.

In September, GWR announced that Tonye had the most steps climbed on a ladder while balancing a football on the head. He achieved the feat by climbing 150 steps to the top of a 250-foot (76-metre) tall radio mast while expertly keeping control of the ball atop his head.

4. Philip Solomon – Most skips on one foot

In January, GWR announced that the record for most skips in 30 seconds on one foot (153) had been achieved by Philip Solomon in Akure, Ondo state.

5. Chef Dammy – Cook-a-thon

Damilola Adeparusi, a student from Ekiti State, had attempted to break Baci’s record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. However, GWR stated that she was never recognised as the record holder.

6. Subair Enitan – Wash-a-ton

The OAU Wash-a-ton made headlines when a female student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Subair Enitan, attempted to hand-wash clothes for 50 hours. She began the Wash-a-thon challenge on November 24 and ended on November 27.

Her record is yet to be affirmed by the GWR as at the time of writing this report.

7. Chidinma Okafor – crochet-a-thon

The most recent GWR breaking attempt on the list is a crochet-a-thon. 30-year-old Chidinma Okafor commenced knitting a wedding gown of her own size on Sunday, December 24th till the 27th of December at GOGE Africa, Maryland Lagos.

As streamers aspire to Twitch fame, the platform’s biggest names have already amassed millions of followers. These are the top 20 Twitch streamers in the world with the most followers as of December 2023.

The world of streaming is experiencing explosive growth, especially with heightened competition from YouTube and Kick, yet Twitch still holds its position as the premier destination for live-streamed content.

At the very top of the pile are those streamers with millions of followers, who regularly attract tens of thousands of viewers as soon as they hit the ‘go live’ button. Some of these streamers have been around for over a decade, while others have only just started in the past year.

Standing atop this digital mountain are Twitch streamers with followers in the millions. These streaming icons range from seasoned veterans, popular for over a decade, to fresh faces that just kick-started their journey in the past couple of years.

These are the most-followed streamers on Twitch.

[Jump to list]

Twitch

Twitch is home to some of the biggest streamers on the internet.

Ninja still number 1 for Twitch followers

Ninja is still number one on the list of the most followed Twitch streamers, with over 18 million followers on his channel. He ended his exclusive partnership with Twitch when he moved to Mixer, but came back after the platform dissolved. However, due to Twitch’s recent policy changes, preventing co-streaming, he is considering moving away from the platform.

Auronplay and Rubius are fast approaching Ninja’s follower count though, and are on track to overtake him. But, their follower growth has slowed.

Kai Cenat is also growing rapidly, and holds the record for most subs at one time, and he has now cracked the top 20, with over 8 million followers.

Meanwhile, Tfue, xQc, and shroud are the next NA-based streamers in the list, all with over 10 million followers. Tfue has retired from streaming and then moved to Kick, so his spot will be up for grabs.

Tfue and Ninja, two of the top twitch streamers.Tfue has now overtaken shroud, but has a long way to go if he wants to overtake Ninja in followers.

The rise of Spanish streamers

In particular, Spanish-speaking streamers are dominating Twitch, now taking up two of the top three spots. This is thanks to the growth of streaming not only in Spain, but also in South America. Ibai, Rubius, and Grefg all make the top 10.

In 2022, there was an argument that Auronplay was actually the most popular streamer on all of Twitch at some stages, with his average viewership often beating every other streamer. In total, eight of the top 20 streamers on Twitch speak either Spanish or Portuguese.

Streamers moving to YouTube & Kick

A number of the top 20 Twitch streamers by follower count have actually moved to YouTube, such as Myth and TimTheTatman. However, we’re keeping them on this list as their channels are still available on the platform (Dr Disrespect’s channel is still banned).

However, some streamers, like Adin Ross, are no longer counted in the list as their accounts are permanently banned. Adin’s channel had 7.2 million followers when he was banned, which would place him 16th on the list. He now streams exclusively on Kick.

Ninja most followed streamersTwitch: Ninja

Ninja is by far the most-followed streamer on Twitch.

From platform celebs like PewDiePie and MrBeast to Bollywood and WWE Superstars, these are the most-subscribed YouTube channels in the world.

Since launching in 2005, YouTube has dominated any and all competitors to become the king of video. No, really: After parent company Google, it’s the second most-visited site on the entire internet. YouTube has given us laughter. It has given us news. It has taught us things. It has even — for better or worse — launched the careers for a number of celebrities, some who’ve gone from famous vloggers to household names. We hear there’s even a professional boxer or two.

If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re either bored, looking to get deeper into YouTube culture, or maybe you’re trying to settle a bet. From the bottom of our hearts, we hope you win. Why not check out the most-viewed YouTube videos of all-time, too? Without further ado, these are the most-subscribed YouTube channels and users from all around the world.

The most-subscribed YouTube channels in the world

Subscribers: 256 million

The most-subscribed YouTube channel is T-Series, and it’s been around since well before the Internet as we know it. Founded in 1983, T-Series is an Indian record label and film production house, famous for Bollywood soundtracks and Indian pop music. Their YouTube channel features music videos and film trailers, and has held the most-viewed title since 2017. Videos on the channel are available in English, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi and Rajasthani.

Subscribers: 222 million

Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, is on a real tear. MrBeast has been gaining and more and more attention since he first went viral for “counting to 100,000” in 2017. Since then, he’s done more viral stunts for his YouTube subscribers, including recreating the set from Netflix’s hit series Squid Game, where 456 people competed for a US$456,000 prize. He’s even opened a burger restaurant, with a new outlet right here in Hong Kong. It’s no surprise that MrBeast is recognised as the highest earner on the platform — according to Forbes, he earned as much as US$54 million in 2021 alone.

Subscribers: 169 million

Popular for the “Bath Song” — with over 5 billion views on the platform — Cocomelon offers 3D animated videos of traditional children’s songs and nursery rhymes, plus a few of their own original tracks. Is this good for kids or not? We don’t know; that’s not our job! But as far as 133 million subscribers are concerned, whatever Cocomelon is doing is working.

Subscribers: 166 million

Sony has a massive reach in India, as Sony Entertainment Television (SET) India comes in as the third-most subscribed and third most-viewed YouTube channel in the world. Airing a mix of dramas and reality shows such as India’s Got Talent and Indian Idol, SET India serves up 24 hours of entertainment each day for its 131 million — and growing — subscriber base.

Subscribers: 117 million

Kids Diana Show is an English-language series geared toward children, featuring a 7-year-old girl named Diana and her brother Roma, who has his own channel, Kids Roma Show. They play around, they do the usual kid stuff. It may not interest adults, but the channel has become so popular that the videos are dubbed in Hindi, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.

Subscribers: 111 million

The name Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg may not ring a bell, but we bet PewDiePie does. The online personality has become both famous and infamous for his online “Let’s Play” gaming content. His YouTube fame took him from episodes of South Park to TIME‘s “100 most influential” list, and he’s amassed over 28 billion views on his channel alone, making him the most-subscribed individual personality on the platform.

Subscribers: 111 million

Like Nastya’s Anastasia Radzinskaya may only be 8 years old, but she’s already amassed a fortune through YouTube videos that have captured the attention of the world. Her parents used the family savings accounts to fund videos, which went from toy unboxing to amusement park visits, and the success of the channel helped them relocate from Russia to Miami, Florida.

Subscribers: 107 million

In another series for kids, Vlad and Niki round out the top ten. Vladislav Vashketov and Nikita Vashketov live in Miami with their parents and create videos in 18 languages for over 200 million subscribers across 21 different YouTube channels. They went from opening toys on camera to creating their own toys after signing a deal with Playmates Toys, a company founded in Hong Kong. They even have their own app. Not bad for a couple of kids born in the 2010s.

Subscribers: 103 million

With headquarters in Mumbai, Zee Music is a direct competitor of T-Series, YouTube’s most-subscribed page. Under the Zee Entertainment Enterprises umbrella, the label distributes hit songs from Bollywood and famous Indian artists.

Subscribers: 98.7 million

In no surprise to your average wrasslin’ fan, World Wrestling Entertainment is one of the most-subscribed YouTube channels in the world. With highlights, interviews and exclusive content featuring the sports entertainment giant’s biggest superstars, wrestling fans from around the globe can’t get enough of WWE’s YouTube page. Woo!
